WhatsApp has released its third transparency report in accordance to the new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. It reveals that a total of 2.07 million accounts were banned in India to prevent harmful behaviour.

WhatsApp has published its first transparency report, as required by the new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. In this, it revealed that it banned 20,11,000 between May 15 and June 15, of which 95 percent were banned 'proactively' for automated bulk messaging - spam.
