Cooked food supply to passengers in trains under e-catering services, which were suspended as a measure to contain the spread of COVID-19, will resume soon in the Eastern Railway (ER) zone, an official said in Kolkata on Sunday.

In a bid to boost the e-catering service and to increase the choice of local or regional cuisine for railway passengers, the IRCTC on Friday said that it has joined hands with delivery service partner TRAPIGO for the purpose.

IRCTC or Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation - the ticketing arm of Indian Railways - has named unauthorised food suppliers aboard trains. Warning railway passengers against unauthorised providers of food delivery service, IRCTC named 11 such entities. Cracking down on errant caterers, railways have terminated a food contract and blacklisted 16 contractors besides collecting a fine of Rs 1.8 crore in 2,108 cases related to food complaints in the last one year.

Food On Track, an e-catering service available to train passengers has now extended to more than 1500 trains.

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a pilot project of a 'station-based e-catering' service allowing passengers to order meals as per their choice, which will be delivered at stations from popular private caterers.

Now a person travelling on train can order KFC meal, while booking ticket through IRCTC from July 20 onwards, under e-catering service initiatives, KFC said in a statement.

E-catering service is a joint effort from KFC and IRCTC to provide fresh food to the passengers on trains.
