Farmer Protest Black Day

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait on Thursday said the protesting farmers led by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) will observe a 'Black Friday' on Friday.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha on Thursday demanded Haryana Chief Minister and the Haryana Home Minister be booked for the "murder" of a protesting farmer on the Punjab-Haryana border and announced a tractor march next week.

Farmers in Punjab and Haryana put up black flags atop their houses, burnt effigies of the Centre and held protests on Wednesday, joining a "black day" call by farmer unions to mark six months of their protest at Delhi borders against the farm laws.

Amid Haryana's Covid lockdown, thousands of farmers today set off from Karnal for Delhi, where they are scheduled to observe 'Black Day', marking six months of their protest against three central farm laws.

As the farmers' protest against the Centre''s new farm laws completed 100 days, the Congress on Saturday said the period was a "black chapter" in India's democracy for the treatment meted out to the protesters and also marked 100 days of the ruling BJP's "arrogance".

Flapping and swaying tents have made way for more permanent structures. Air conditioners and coolers being set up indicate the approaching summer has been accounted for. At the many makeshift townships that have sprung up along Delhi's border points in the past three months or more, the crowd may be thinning, but not the resolve by the looks of it....

"Those opposing farm laws are insulting farmers," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today, a day after Punjab Youth Congress workers set a tractor on fire near India Gate in the heart of Delhi during protests against the controversial farm laws, which have triggered widespread agitations in several states.
