Carmaker BMW will recall 1.4 million vehicles in China due to faulty airbags, the country's market regulator announced on Friday.

The affected models are Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco,Brezza, Baleno and Grand Vitara,manufactured between December 8, 2022 and January 12, 2023, the country's largest carmaker said in a regulatory filing.

Takata was embroiled in one Japan's worst corporate scandals in recent years after admitting it fabricated faulty airbag inflators that could explode and send metal shrapnel into vehicle compartments.

The most recent previous fatal confirmed U.S. incident was the June 2018 death of a driver after the crash of a 2002 Honda Civic in Buckeye, Arizona.

Honda Motor Co has agreed to pay $85 million to settle an investigation by most U.S. states into its use of defective Takata airbag inflators in its vehicles, according to a consent order made public on Tuesday.

The recall, which includes 2.9 million U.S. vehicles, covers 2011-2019 Corolla, 2011-2013 Matrix, 2012-2018 Avalon and 2013-2018 Avalon Hybrid vehicles and is tied to a report of one fatal crash.

The recall is a voluntary one and has been prompted to inspect the front airbag inflators on the Endeavour. The affected lot had been made at the company's Chennai plant between February 2004 and September 2014.

Maruti Suzuki has issued a voluntary recall for the new generation Swift and Dzire models in the country to inspect a possible fault in the airbag controller unit. The automaker will be inspecting 1279 vehicles comprising 566 Swift and 713 Dzire models that were manufactured between May 7 and July 5, 2018, as part of the recall exercise.

The latest exercise takes the overall number of recalled vehicles, equipped with airbags manufactured by Takata, by the company to 3.13 lakh units in India.

German car maker Daimler is recalling more than a million vehicles, including Mercedes, due to a problem with the airbags, a company spokesman was quoted as saying Monday.

German auto giant Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall of 400,000 vehicles in the UK over a potential airbag issue. The recall affects vehicles that were manufactured between November 2011 and July 2017 and includes certain units of the A, B, C and E-Class models, as well as the GLA, CLA and GLC cars in the company's line-up.

The Japanese carmaker and its Chinese joint venture partner Guangqi Honda will start withdrawing vehicles fitted with the potentially faulty airbags beginning October 23 and will include Accord, Fit, City, Crosstour and Everus S1 models.

GM and its joint venture partner Shanghai GM will start withdrawing vehicles fitted with the potentially faulty airbags beginning next month and will include Chevrolet and Buick cars. They will replace the faulty airbags for free.

Honda Motor Co (7267.T) on Friday released a 2013 email in which one of its engineers suggested that he knew some hidden truth about "the root cause" of Takata Corp (7312.T) air bag failures, but the engineer later said he was mistaken.
