The government has cancelled the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of prominent public think-tank, Centre for Policy Research for alleged violation of laws, officials said on Wednesday.

The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of 1,811 NGOs were cancelled by the government between 2019-21 for alleged violation of law, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Addressing reporters outside Parliament House, Mr Shah said the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) registration of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) was cancelled as it allegedly got Rs 1.35 crore from the Chinese Embassy.

The FCRA registration of 6,677 NGOs were cancelled by the government between 2017 and 2021, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

The Centre today told the Supreme Court that Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registrations of 11,594 NGOs, which applied within the cut-off date, have already been extended.

The FCRA licence for Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity was restored Saturday, according to an entry in the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act website, two weeks after the Home Ministry cited "adverse inputs" to refuse a renewal request.
