Flexi-fare In Shatabdi

On September 9, 2016, the railways had introduced flexi-fare for premier trains: 44 Rajdhani, 52 Duronto and 46 Shatabdi Express trains.

In the present flexi-fare system, train fares go up as soon as a certain number of seats are booked in premium trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto.

Dynamic or flexi-fare in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains will be admissible under the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) allowance.

Railways is considering either raising the basic fare by 15 per cent flat or reserving about 50 per cent berths in premier trains for normal fare.

According to the current flexi-fare system, which came into force since September last year, only 10 per cent of the seats are sold in the normal fare category.

Amid criticism over introduction of dynamic surging fare in premier trains, the Railways on Sunday claimed that the response is quite good and the flexi-fare is still lower than airfare.
