Floods In Coastal Karnataka

As heavy rains continue to disrupt normal life in coastal areas and Malnad region of Karnataka, flood warnings have been sounded in some northern districts due to heavy downpour in neighbouring Maharashtra.

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) will visit different parts of Karnataka from today to assess the damage and extent of loss caused by the floods this year. The six-member IMCT, which will be split into three teams, will visit parts of northern and coastal Karnataka.

Heavy rains in the past few days have caused devastation in several parts of Karnataka, especially in coastal Udupi district where houses and crops have been submerged, prompting the government to rush disaster response force personnel for rescue operations on Sunday.

Weather update: In its latest weather alert, the India Meteorological Division (IMD) has said, "Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, North Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Coastal and South interior Karnataka and Kerala are expected."
