A day after a former DMK functionary was arrested in connection with an international drugs trafficking racket, the BJP on Sunday demanded that party chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin explain his relationship with the accused.

The main opposition DMK on Sunday condemned the Centre for what it called "turning Jammu and Kashmir region into a huge prison'' and demanded the release of all those arrested, including former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.

Several leaders including Jammu and Kashmir's former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah were arrested amid tensed situation over the scrapping of Article 370.

Former DMK Minister Suba Thangavelan was arrested in Ramanathapuram today under provisions of Motor Vehicles Act for violating the poll code and canvassing for the party candidate in a convoy of over 12 vehicles, police said.

Two DMK functionaries have been arrested for trying to set themselves ablaze protesting detention of former Minister Veerapandi S Arumugam under the Goondas Act, as eight government buses were stoned in Salem, police said.
