French authorities on Friday detained a man after receiving an alert from the Iranian consulate in Paris that someone had entered carrying an explosive, the capital's police authority said.

Unidentified attackers on a motorcycle threw an explosive device at the French embassy in central Athens early on Thursday, wounding a guard, police said, in an attack that came less than a week before US President Barack Obama visits the city.

Three large explosions were heard in Yemen's capital Sanaa on Sunday, close to the defence ministry, the central bank and the former president's home, locals told Reuters.
