The students' association of the Film and Television Institute of India screened the controversial BBC documentary on the 2002 Godhra riots on the campus of the premier acting school here, said the student body on Saturday.

The students' association of Pune-based FTII has sought immediate suspension of online classes for the 2020 batch students, saying that it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to attend classes due to the challenges posed by the coronavirus crisis.

A day after Anupam Kher was appointed Chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), its students' association has drawn the veteran actor's attention to nine key issues persisting in the iconic Pune-based institution.

FTII Students' Association president Harishankar Nachimuthu said: "Gajendra Chauhan is coming, that is confirmed, but we have not got any official intimation. There will be protests obviously, but we have not decided other things. There will be some protest at the campus on Thursday"

Fresh talks to end the over 100 day impasse at FTII will be held next week when a delegation of the students protesting against the appointment of actor Gajendra Chauhan as Institute Chairman will meet MoS for Information and Broadcasting in Delhi.

"The ministry (representatives) will come back on Thursday to further discuss on this issue. The government has given no assurance and neither have the students done so. The talks are still on. The strike is still on," FTII Students' Association president informed the media

After nearly 100 days of agitation against Gajendra Chauhan's appointment as FTII chairman, possibility of resolution of the impasse today brightened with the protesting students saying they were ready for talks with the government without any preconditions.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has assured all help to the striking students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) who met him on Tuesday.

Nearly 80 students of the beleaguered FTII left Pune for Delhi to stage a demonstration in the national capital tomorrow to highlight their demands, mainly removal of actor and BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as the institute's chairman.

The alumni association of FTII came out in support of students on Friday, saying they will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and resolve the deadlock.
