Yet another round of talks on Tuesday failed to end the standoff between the government and FTII students over the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as its Chairman, with the students alleging "unwillingness or inability" of the authorities to act upon their core concerns.

Agitating students of FTII today held one more round of talks with the government but there were no indications of an immediate end to the four-month-old deadlock over appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as its Chairman.

Fresh talks to end the over 100 day impasse at FTII will be held next week when a delegation of the students protesting against the appointment of actor Gajendra Chauhan as Institute Chairman will meet MoS for Information and Broadcasting in Delhi.

The fourth round of talks between the agitating students of the Film and Television Institute of India and government officials to resolve a 120-day-long standoff has been inconclusive.

The crucial talks between Information and Broadcasting Ministry officials and FTII students to help break the impasse over the appointment of actor Gajendra Chauhan as the Pune-based institute's chairman are underway at the Films Division office here.

As attempts are made to break the impasse at Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), another round of talks is set to take place between officials of the Union Information and Broadcasting ministry and agitating students today.

"I can see there is huge dissatisfaction with liberal space shrinking at the moment and people are very much upset about it. We have a government which on one hand talks about very liberal things and on the other hand, does absolutely nothing to denounce those who are making retrograde remarks," said Shabana Azmi

With FTII students sticking to their demand for removal of TV actor Gajendra Chauhan as the institute's chairman, a second round of talks in Mumbai today between the striking students and I & B Ministry officials failed to break the deadlock but the two sides agreed to meet again in New Delhi on October 6.

FTII students, who called off their relay hunger strike after the government agreed to come to the negotiating table, held talks with Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry officials here today.

"The ministry (representatives) will come back on Thursday to further discuss on this issue. The government has given no assurance and neither have the students done so. The talks are still on. The strike is still on," FTII Students' Association president informed the media

The students, on September 26 said that they were ready to withdraw their hunger strike to pave the way for a dialogue if the Information and Broadcasting Ministry confirmed a date and venue for talks. After nearly 100 days of agitation against Gajendra Chauhan's appointment as FTII chairman, possibility of resolution of the impasse today brightened with the protesting students saying they were ready for talks with the government without any preconditions.
