F-16 And F-18 Fighter Jets

The trajectory of the India-US defence ties in the fighter jet segment depends on New Delhi's decision on the F-16 and F-18 warplanes being offered by the US, a top Defence Department official has said.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson today said the US will provide India with best technologies for its military modernisation which include offers to supply F-16 and F-18 fighter jets.

The Trump administration has told the US Congress that it "strongly supports" the sale of F-18 and F-16 fighter jets to India and asserted that the proposals have the potential to take Indo-US defence ties to the next level.

Having lost out on the multi-billion Indian Air Force contract, the Pentagon said American fighter jets - F-16 and F-18 - would have provided India unbeatable platforms with proven technologies at a competitive price.
