Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav today said that party leader Gayatri Prajapati, who is in jail over a rape case, is "innocent" and further alleged that the ex-minister is being treated like a "terrorist". Mr Yadav met Prajapati at a Lucknow jail today.

As Gayatri Prajapati, the Uttar Pradesh minister facing arrest for the gang-rape of a woman, remains missing, her young daughter is at the AIIMS hospital in Delhi, heavily sedated and in "severe trauma", according to doctors.

The PM travelled to Guwahati, his adopted city to cast his vote on Thursday. But this connection may not be enough for his party to win seats in the state.

Ahead of the elections, travelling through Assam's battleground, one gets a feel of the political heat in the state.
