Ghaziabad Pollution Units

A total of 121 polluting factories have been razed in Ghaziabad's Loni town since October 15, with a dozen units being demolished on Tuesday, District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey said.

More than two dozen polluting factories were razed in Loni town in Ghaziabad district on Wednesday on the instructions of District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari, officials said.

National Green Tribunal has directed surprise checks of polluting industries in Ghaziabad and adjoining areas after a plea alleged that toxic discharge from these units was causing air and water pollution there.

As many as 80 industrial units in Ghaziabad have been sealed by the Pollution Control Board in compliance with orders passed by Allahabad High Court following a Public interest litigation (PIL) filed by an advocate, officials said.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) Wednesday directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and its Uttar Pradesh unit to inspect a sugar mill, a distillery and a dairy plant on whether they were discharging effluents into the Ganga river.
