Goa Rajya Sabha Polls

Elections will be held for 10 Rajya Sabha seats across three states on July 24. Bengal has the largest number of seats -- six, followed by Gujarat which has three seats and Goa, one.

The BJP has retained all four states it ruled, with a sparkling victory in the politically crucial Uttar Pradesh, ensuring a boost in the coming Rajya Sabha polls and the 2024 national elections. AAP swept Punjab, wiping out the ruling Congress.

Sitting Rajya Sabha member and Goa Congress chief Mr Shantaram Naik today filed nomination papers as the party candidate for the election to the Upper House of Parliament from the coastal state. Pitted against BJP's state chief Mr Vinay Tendulkar, Mr Naik expressed confidence of winning the election with the "support of like-minded secular forces."

The Goa BJP unit chief, Mr Vinay Tendulkar, today filed his nomination for the election to the state's lone Rajya Sabha seat. The election for the Rajya Sabha seat in Goa would be held on July 21 and today is the last day for filing the nominations.

After failing to form the government in Goa despite emerging as the single largest party in the assembly polls, the Congress is now planning to field a "consensus candidate" of the non-BJP parties for the lone Rajya Sabha seat in the state.

Congress's Digvijaya Singh today hit out at Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who, on Friday, took a dig at him by thanking Mr Singh for failing to install a Congress government in the state despite winning the most seats in the assembly elections
