Shares of tobacco companies fell sharply on Tuesday after the government accepted the recommendations of an expert panel, which has proposed banning the sale of loose cigarettes among other tough measures. These recommendations will now be put before the Cabinet and will also require a Parliament nod before they are implemented.

A top executive of Mumbai-based Golden Tobacco Company (GTC), against whom a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued in an alleged Rs 540 crore cheating case, has been arrested after being picked up from Kolkata airport while he was trying to flee the country, police said on Wednesday.
