A quarry owner has reportedly been slapped with a whopping Rs 4.75 crore fine by the Sub-Collector for allegedly cutting huge quantities of granite without government permission.

A boy and a girl, both students of class XI at a private school, committed suicide by jumping into a canal near Gopichettipalayam, police said. The duo had left their homes on Monday afternoon with their school bags, went to Bhoothimadai area, jumped into the Lower Bhavani Project canal.
