With the aim of detecting any possible cases of bird flu, the Gujarat Animal Husbandry department has sounded an alert for its district offices across the state to beef up surveillance and monitoring, a minister said on Wednesday.

The Gujarat Animal Husbandry Department on Tuesday decided to cull around 700 birds kept at an animal care centre near the city after some of the Guinea fowls brought Ahmedabad from Mumbai were found to be infected with Avian Influenza, commonly known as Bird flu.
