Gujarat Company Fined

The National Green Tribunal Monday slapped a penalty of Rs 25 crore on a company where a huge fire caused by a blast in the boiler at Dahej in Bharuch district of Gujarat on June 3 resulted in the death of eight workers.

According to reports, the erstwhile UPA government had in 2013 imposed a fine of Rs 200 crore on the company for environmental damage caused during construction of its port in Mundra in Gujarat and that the present NDA dispensation has waived the penalty.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has slapped penalties totalling more than Rs 50 lakh on 11 companies since the beginning of the current fiscal year for allegedly failing to resolve investor complaints.
