Gujarat Rajya Sabha Bypolls

BJP candidates on Thursday filed nominations for bypolls to two Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat and are expected to be declared winners as the Congress did not field any candidate, an official said.

The BJP on Tuesday announced the names of candidates who will be contesting the byelections for two Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat which will be held on March 1.

The notification for the bypolls will be issued on February 11 and the election would be held on March 1.

Voting is taking place in Gujarat for Rajya Sabha bypolls to two seats vacated by the BJP's Amit Shah and Smriti Irani, who were elected to the Lok Sabha in the recent national polls.

On the eve of the voting for the Rajya Sabha bypolls for two seats in Gujarat, Congress lawmakers attended their legislative party meeting at a resort in Banaskantha district in the state on Thursday, said party leaders.
