Prime Minister Narendra Modi kick-started countrywide celebrations to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today. PM Modi, who launched the 'Swachh Bharat' campaign in 2014, will declare the country open defecation-free at the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat in the evening.

Porbandar, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, and nearly 170 towns in Gujarat, were today declared Open Defecation Free on the birth anniversary of the 'Father of the Nation'.

The principal limitation in defining poverty in terms of a single line, as those above it being APL and those below it being BPL, is that there was no gradation from destitution to deprivation to poverty to vulnerability.
