Gujjar Talks

The Rajasthan government on Monday said that its doors were open for talks with the agitating Gujjar community members on their demands for reservation.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday said that his government was ready to open talks with Gujjars, but condemned the violence and blocking of road and train traffic by protesters in the state.

Patel agitation leader Hardik Patel is today expected to hold talks with quota stir leaders, including Gujjars and Jats in Delhi.

Talks to resolve the stand-off over the issue of job reservation for Gujjars will continue today with a spokesperson for their delegation saying a breakthrough is likely during the fresh parleys after the Rajasthan government on Wednesday expressed its inability to meet their demands.

Accepting Vasundhara Raje government's offer to come to Jaipur to hold talks on reservation issue, Gujjar leaders today decided to hold meeting with the committee of ministers in the state capital.

A day after their talks failed with the government, Gujjars intensified their agitation today for five per cent quota by blocking highways in parts of Rajasthan and threatened to expand it across the state even as their leaders were booked for rioting and endangering lives.

The first round of talks between leaders of the Gujjar community and Rajasthan government to discuss the issue of five per cent reservation in government jobs has failed. More than 100 trains have been cancelled and an equal number have been diverted because of the protest by Gujjars which has entered its fourth day today.

A faction of Gujjars, who started a march towards Jaipur from Shahpura on Jaipur-Delhi highway earlier this week demanding five per cent reservation, have postponed their march for ten days after holding talks with the Rajasthan government.
