Heat wave conditions continued in Punjab and Haryana on Saturday, with Gurugram sizzling at 46.2 degrees Celsius.

The blistering heatwave sweeping across Delhi-NCR intensified further on Saturday with the maximum temperature in the national capital rising to 42.4 degrees Celsius, the highest in April in five years, and nearing the 45-degree mark in Gurgaon.

Rains lashed parts of the national capital and adjoining states early this morning, bringing down the temperature in the region. There is also a forecast of thunderstorms and heavy rain in and around Delhi later today, the weather department said.

An intense heat wave swept today across the national capital and nearby cities like Gurgaon. Delhi reported a maximum temperature of 43.4 degree Celsius, according to the Palam observatory of the India Meteorological Department.

Heavy rain hit parts of Delhi and adjoining areas today, making Sunday evening pleasant. Private weather forecasting agency Skymet has forecast more rain and thundershowers in Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon within the next few hours.

Delhi witnessed light rain today morning bringing some relief to the residents of the national capital from the heat conditions. Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Faridabad adjoining Delhi, too, received some rain. Yesterday, the temperature in Delhi had soared to 40 degrees Celsius. The presence of moisture over Delhi had made Thursday hot and humid.

The weather office has issued alert of thunderstorm and dust storm in Delhi on Monday along with rain. Schools have already been shut in neighbouring Haryana on storm alert by the home ministry.
