Hamid Ansari On Yoga

Vice President Hamid Ansari today said yoga is "science, not dogma" and could complement health care approaches in developing countries, including India. "It (yoga) is a science, not dogma," Mr Ansari said after inaugurating a two-day international conference on 'Yoga for Body and Beyond'.

Vice President Hamid Ansari's wife Salma Ansari on Monday endorsed chanting of 'Om' during International Yoga Day on June 21 and criticised those who have been opposing it.

After criticising Vice President Hamid Ansari for not attending the International Yoga Day celebrations in Delhi and then apologising for it, BJP leader Ram Madhav called on Mr Ansari today.

On a debate last night on NDTV in which I participated, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra refused to answer my question on abrasive statements by Yogi Adityanath and Ram Madhav about non-practitioners of Yoga. Patra and Kiran Bedi, his colleague from the BJP, sought like other leaders from their party to dismiss the serious allegations by Ram Madhav.

The government is reportedly upset with BJP leader Ram Madhav for questioning Vice President Hamid Ansari's absence at a massive Yoga Day event in Delhi on Sunday where Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed asanas along with nearly 36,000 people.
