Kotdwar and Haridwar (rural) seats in Uttarakhand are all set to witness interesting contests when the state goes to polls on February 14 with the daughters of two former chief ministers preparing to avenge the defeats of their fathers.

The Congress was trounced in Uttarakhand by the BJP today, leading only in 13 of the state's 70 seats. The BJP is leading in 58 seats at 3.15 pm. Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who lost from both the seats he contested -- Haridwar (Rural) and Kichcha -- is expected to meet the Governor and resign his post today.

Voting has ended in Uttarakhand's 69 constituencies spread across 13 districts (7 in Garhwal region and the remaining 6 in Kumaon region of the state). Residents of Uttarakhand voted today to decide who will form the next government in the state. The overall voter turnout was 68%, which is 1.2% higher than the 2012 Assembly election (66.8%). For Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, the last day of nominations brought with it a historic 'first'. After filing his nomination from Kichcha on Tuesday, the Chief Minister on Friday filed his nomination from Haridwar Rural, one of the 11 assembly seats in Haridwar district, where he won the Lok Sabha polls in 2009.
