Buoyed by the Supreme Court verdict upholding a law which fixes minimum educational qualification for candidates contesting panchayat polls, the Haryana government today said it is in favour of holding Panchayat elections at the earliest.

The Supreme Court today was told that the people's right to contest election to panchayats in rural areas cannot be disabled by introducing educational and other eligibility criteria for the aspiring candidates.
