India's Aid To Maldives 50% Higher Than Last Year's Outlay, But Lower Than Actual Spend

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday called for higher capital outlays, consistent fiscal consolidation and limiting of the debt-GDP ratio to improve the finances of the states, whose combined gross fiscal deficit has improved by 20 bps to 2.3 per cent of GDP in financial year 2014-15.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the government will target a 3.9 per cent fiscal deficit for year starting April 1, 2015 to make room for higher investment in infra and capital expenditure. The government plans to spend Rs 1.25 lakh crore for investment out of which Rs 70,000 crore will come from budgetary outlay, he added.

The total capex or capital expenditure of the seven PSUs for FY2014-15 is just 3.4 per cent higher than that of Rs 49,731.90 crore in 2013-14.
