Hollywood Pay Disparity

I don't talk about these experiences much, because coming from me they'll sound like a huge deal and I don't want this to be about me, but most women I know have experienced it and worse," said Emma Watson

Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman, who is currently in New Delhi, spoke to NDTV's Sreenivasan Jain. In an exclusive conversation, the Oscar-winning actress said there were fewer 'women-centric roles' in Hollywood and that the gender wage gap that existed in the industry was 'not right.'

"After Basic Instinct, no one wanted to pay me. I remember sitting in my kitchen with my manager and just crying and saying 'I'm not going to work until I get paid'. I still got paid so much less than any man," said Shraon Stone. She added that change "has to start with regular pay, not just for movie stars"

"I don't really talk about the minutia of what goes on in my movies, but I believe the spirit of what Jennifer is saying is truthful to her heart. I support her and all women in that. I understand what she's saying, and I think people in the business do too. It's hard to make a movie come together with a lot of big stars"

"Look, nobody is worth the money that Robert Downey Jr is worth," said actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who has worked with RDJ in Iron Man series. Further, harassment of women in Hollywood is only the most explicit manifestation of their treatment as second-class citizens

Though actresses have proved themselves by delivering hit films but a disparity is still present between them and their male counterparts, as far as the pay scale is concerned. "It is a male dominated industry, be it Hollywood or Bollywood, it happens everywhere," said Madhur Bhandarkar
