Hookah Banned In Haryana

The Haryana Assembly on Monday passed a bill that prohibits opening or running hookah bars or serving hookah to customers in any place, including eating houses, in the state.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has imposed a total ban on serving hookah in hotels, restaurants, bars and commercial establishments in Haryana. Teams will be formed to stop the serving of Hookah in bars, pubs and restaurants.

The ban comes months after Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta raised a demand that commercial establishments stop serving hookah.

Even though the consumption of Hookah has been banned in Haryana for a year, around 20 college students, aged between 18 and 20, were today found being served the waterpipe at a cafe in Gurgaon.

The Gurgaon administration on Tuesday banned hookah bars in the entire district, a Haryana government spokesman said. "District Magistrate P.C. Meena has today (Tuesday) banned hookah bars in the district. He has invoked Section 144 of Cr PC 1973 for this purpose," he said
