The Indian Ministry of Railways will collaborate with IIT Madras to develop an "indigenous" Hyperloop system, officials confirmed. Railway ministry will also help set-up a Centre of Excellence for Hyperloop Technologies at IIT Madras. The premier institute approached Ministry of Railways in March-2022 with a proposal for collaborative working.

Government think-tank NITI Aayog has formed a high-level panel to explore the technological and commercial viability of the Virgin Hyperloop technology for ultrahigh speed travel in India, weeks after its first test was completed with humans on board.

US-based Hyperloop Transportation Technologies or HyperloopTT has unveiled its first full-scale transportation capsule at Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain, which will be ready for passengers in 2019.

Hyperloop Transportation Technology has also proposed setting up a manufacturing complex that will focus on several aspects of the project, such as building the tube, capsule, the track and 3D printing.

Having junked the proposed metro project from Vijaywada, the Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday joined hands with a US-based company to introduce the futuristic -Hyperloop- transportation system in the state capital region, Amrawati.

Hyperloop is proposed to be introduced between the city centres of Vijayawada and Amaravati. It will supposedly cover the distance of over 35 km only in five minutes.

"We have not received any investment or offers of investment from the government or private investors in India yet," Rob Llyod told IANS in a telephonic interview from the US.

The government's think tank, Niti Aayog, has cleared six high-tech mass rapid transport systems in India. These technologies will offer quick transport, be affordable and will also be environmentally friendly than the current modes of public transport in India.

Hyperloop is a technology in its nascent stage but if all goes to plan, we could see pods zipping across countries at over 1000 kmph.

A futuristic technology in the transport system could see one whiz from Delhi to Mumbai in a pod-like car in just under one hour.
