IIT Campus In Sri Lanka: The proposal was made in November last year during the presentation of the 2024 Budget by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who concurrently holds the position of finance minister.

While IIT Delhi is considering setting up a campus in UAE, IIT Madras is exploring options in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Tanzania. The Centre had earlier this year set up a 17-member committee headed by IIT Council standing committee chairperson Dr K Radhakrishnan.
