A South Korean court has outlawed the killing of dogs for meat, in a landmark ruling that animal rights activists said Thursday could pave the way to making eating canines illegal.

In parts of north east India, illegal trafficking of dogs for their meat is on the rise, but a group of dog lovers have been on a rescue spree, with tip offs on social media being their new tool to save 'man's best friend.'

An animal rights organisation today termed as "illegal" a controversial resolution adopted by gram panchayats in a Kerala district proposing export of dog meat to China to counter stray dog population.

Campaigners protesting China's annual dog meat festival, which sees thousands of canines butchered and eaten, were forcibly dispersed by unidentified men today as they attempted to rally outside a government office.
