Illegal Mining On Yamuna

The Delhi High court on Monday directed Delhi Police to constitute a joint task force with Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police to monitor and stop the illegal sand mining in River Yamuna in the Alipur area.

The National Green Tribunal today banned sand mining on the Yamuna after a plea alleged that some private firms were engaged in the activity and a temporary bridge was made on the river obstructing its natural flow of water.

The National Green Tribunal today came down heavily on the Delhi government for permitting sand mining in the name of dredging and directed the authorities concerned to stop illegal mining on the Yamuna river bed and its surrounding areas.
