One person was shot dead in a police encounter in Tirunelvelli district of Tamil Nadu. According to initial reports, a police inspector, who raided an illegal sand quarry near Nanguneri, opened fire in self-defence and killed an alleged gangster. The gangster has been identified as Vanavamalai.
