India Pakistan Border Village Evacuation

A day after India conducted surgical strikes targeting terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control, the army evacuated several villages along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. But thousands of villagers chose to remain fearing for their standing crops and property.

No village in Rajasthan will be evacuated even though the authorities have announced a "high alert" along the international border following the surgical strikes by India on terror launchpads across the Line of Control last night.

This time, 15 Indian posts came under fire from the Pakistan Rangers in the Samba and Hiranagar sectors. All educational institutions have been shut and border villages evacuated.

Underground bunkers provide the only safety zone for hundreds of people in this part of Jammu's Samba sector near Manguchak post.

A woman died and eight civilians were injured as Pakistani Rangers kept up the overnight firing and shelling at 13 border outposts in Kathua and Samba districts in Jammu and Kashmir. Already, 1,000 people have been evacuated from the local villages. Claiming a child died in retaliatory firing by India, Pakistan threatened India with strong action.
