India Pakistan Water Sharing Agreement

Pakistan has requested the World Bank to fulfill its obligation to establish a court of arbitration to settle its water dispute with India in the light of the Indus Waters Treaty.

The World Bank has said that discussions between India and Pakistan over Kishanganga and Ratle hydroelectric power plants are ongoing and no decision has been made yet.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed hope that India and Pakistan will bilaterally resolve issues over water-sharing, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the waters of Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers that rightfully belong to India will be stopped from going waste in Pakistan.

India today indicated that a dramatic reconfiguring of the Indus Waters Treaty for the sharing of six rivers with Pakistan is not off the table as a response to the Uri terror attack, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at a meeting: "Blood and water cannot flow together."
