Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio’s net subscriber addition has increased the overall telecom user base to over 116.69 crore in March 2022, said TRAI in its monthly report. The new customer additions included both mobile telephones as well as fixed line services segment in March.

Reliance Jio has kickstarted the wider rollout of its Jio Fixed Voice landline service for GigaFiber preview subscribers.

Reliance Jio has begun rolling out landline services to its GigaFiber subscribers in select locations. Jio GigaFiber users will be contacted by the company when the service is available for them.

The number of telephone subscribers in India rose from 1,179.83 million at the end of February to 1,206.22 million at the end of March.

The number of telephone subscribers in India rose from 1,185.88 million at the end of November 2017 to 1,190.67 million at the end of December.

Only three operators - Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and state-run BSNL - reported subscriber additions in the month.

While the growth was led by 6.23 million net subscriber additions in the mobile services segment, it was impacted by decline of 0.14 million landline subscribers.

During the month of March, a total of 6.03 million requests were received for mobile number portability (MNP).

The overall tele-density in India increased from 87.81 at the end of November 2016 to 89.90 at the end of December 2016.

The growth in October 2016 was led by mobile telephony, which saw addition of record 28.68 million customers in a month.

Telephone subcribers in India declined from 1,059.29 million at the end of April 2016 to 1,058.03 million at the end of May 2016.
