Indian Diplomats Harassed

Guests invited to an Iftar party hosted by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad were intimidated and "aggressively" turned away from the venue by Pakistani officials on Saturday evening, a top Indian diplomat said.

India has lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over several incidents of alleged harassment of Indian High Commission officials in Islamabad between March 8 and 11, and demanded an immediate investigation into them, official sources said on Monday.

Power supply was disrupted at the residence of an Indian diplomat in Islamabad for nearly four hours on Christmas, following which the Indian High Commission took up the issue with Pakistan Foreign Ministry, official sources said.

Indian diplomats based in Islamabad are facing harassment on multiple counts, sources have told ANI. There is a deliberate attempt to delay gas connections making kitchens defunct, while Internet connections of many Indian officials have been blocked, sources added.

With Indian diplomats in Pakistan continuing to face harassment and intimidation, New Delhi on Thursday sent yet another note verbale to Islamabad seeking an investigation into all these incidents.
