Indian airlines carried 1.14 crore passengers in October, 10 per cent higher than the number of people flown in September.

India's domestic air passenger market is expected to double its size by 2030 from the pre-pandemic level, aircraft manufacturer Boeing said today.

India's domestic air passenger traffic stood at 100 million in 2016 and was behind only the US (719 million) and China (436 million), Sydney-based aviation think-tank Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) said in its latest report.

Sounding bullish, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) expects more than 100 million domestic passengers to fly by the end of the year, especially as India has outstripped passenger traffic growth in this sector across major global economies including the US and China last year.

Domestic air traffic logged a robust of nearly 25 per cent growth in November with 11 Indian carriers together flying 7.32 million passengers as compared to 5.82 million passengers in the same period last year, driven by the demand in the tourist season.

Global airlines' body IATA today termed Indian aviation market as "faltering" and said domestic passenger traffic in the country had slid by about 10 per cent compared to a year ago, the "worst" for any market.
