Indian Envoy In Nepal

The Ambassador of Nepal to India, Shankar Prasad Sharma, has called for the Indian business community to consider investing in Nepal and added that New Delhi is the number one place to promote investing in the Himalayan nation.

Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae said today the country will support the bid for seeking political consensus among the government, opposition and agitating Madhesi political parties in Nepal.

Nepal's new Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli is likely to visit India soon, the Indian envoy in Nepal said on Tuesday, a day after the visit of Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa to New Delhi to discus hiccups in ties following the Madhesi-led blockade of main trading points.

India's envoy in Kathmandu today called on Nepal's new Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa and discussed ways to ease supply of essential goods to the land-locked country amid strained ties over the blockade of border trade points due to protests by Madhesis over the new Constitution.

The tension between India and Nepal over the Himalayan country's new Constitution led to the government summoning the Indian envoy to raise the issue of obstruction in the supply of essential goods coming from the Indian side.

Ranjit Rae will be India's new ambassador to Nepal, succeeding Jayant Prasad. The change takes place at a time when Nepal is preparing for second elections of the Constituent Assembly in November.

Nearly 20 terrorists slipped into India from Nepal in 2009 using the open border between the two countries while fake Indian currency worth almost Rs 2 crore was seized in the country in what is a major security concern for India, a top official said.
