There are no provisions in the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 to accommodate or transfer medical students from any foreign medical institutes to medical colleges in India, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar said.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has issued a circular to all its 2.5 lakh members warning them not to advertise "No Cure No Payment" or "guaranteed cure" stating both are violations of Medical Council of India (MCI) Code of Ethics Regulations as well as Drugs and Magic Remedies Act.

Mamata Banerjee has taken on the government over another piece of legislation - her party, the Trinamool Congress, voted against a bill related to the Medical Council of India (MCI) in the Lok Sabha. The bill was passed, but the government has to deal with the embarrassment of an ally serving as the opposition.
