The Emir of Kuwait has freed 22 Indian prisoners and commuted the sentences of 97 others held in the Arab country's jails, according to India's Embassy in Kuwait City.

There has been an increase in the arrest of Indians in cases of alleged possession of drugs and narcotics in Kuwait, with more than 60 per cent kept in Central jail, according to an official statement.
