The Indian Air Force was closely monitoring a Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 777 jetliner which crossed into the Indian airspace last week after it failed to land at Lahore airport because of heavy rain in the region.

After Pakistan's move to deny Prime Minister Narendra Modi's special flight the use of its airspace, India has complained to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), sources in the government have said.

Pakistan said today that it could order the closure of its airspace for India "at a time of its choosing" but has not taken a decision yet.

India has requested Pakistan to let Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aircraft fly over its airspace to Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan where he has to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on June 13 and June 14, a senior government official told news agency Press Trust of India.

Flight operations resumed at Lahore airport on Sunday after being suspended for over 72 hours as Pakistan's airspace was closed in the wake of escalating tensions with India.
