About 24 hours after military chiefs from India and Pakistan surprised the world last month with a rare joint commitment to respect a 2003 cease-fire agreement, the top diplomat of the United Arab Emirates popped over to New Delhi for a quick one-day visit.

Hitting out at Pakistan, India has said the country foments a "culture of violence" at home and across its borders and its "deplorable" human rights records and discriminatory treatment of religious minorities is a cause of "persistent concern" for the global community.

Chinese President Xi Jinping met Imran Khan in Beijing today and expressed hope that Pakistan and India could meet each other halfway improving their strained relations following the Pulwama terror attack carried out by the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed. The Pakistani envoy whose conferrals with Kashmiri separatists provoked India to cancel talks in Islamabad today said, "Dialogue is not a favour by Pakistan to India or vice versa" while declaring that his country remains committed to promoting regional peace through talks.

"Peace should be irreversible and peace talks should not be derailed by a single incident," Ms Khar said, adding, "Trade is the way forward. When we invest in each other's countries, it strengthens peace. (sic)"
