Amid rising complaints from air travellers related to web check-in, IndiGo on Saturday said that the process is "not mandatory".

IndiGo, the country's largest airline by market share, said on Monday that it has not changed its web check-in policy under which customers can choose their seats online.

"Why pay a premium for web-checkins on flights...when you can just take a train?" the railways tweeted Monday, in an apparent dig at budget carrier IndiGo's decision to levy charges for web check-in for all seats.

Low-cost carrier IndiGo, which on Sunday said that all seats under its web check-in policy will be chargeable, denied levying any such fee on Monday.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has noted that airlines are now charging for web check-in for all seats. "We are reviewing this fees to see whether they fall within the unbundled pricing framework," it added.

The government is reviewing a move by private airlines IndiGo and SpiceJet to charge for seats booked in advance through the web check-in feature, which has provoked anger among air-travelers.
