Inmate Beaten Up

Former Congress Councillor Ishrat Jahan, arrested under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a northeast Delhi riots case, alleged before a court in Delhi on Tuesday that she was beaten up by inmates at Mandoli jail and was continuously facing harassment in prison.

The CBI has taken over the investigation into the Tihar Jail violence last year where 18 inmates were allegedly beaten up by the prison staff, officials said Tuesday.

An inmate of the Jaipur central jail has alleged in a court that he was beaten up prison staff, prompting authorities to order a probe into the matter today.
