Inner Line Permit System

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central government and Manipur government on a plea challenging the system of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Manipur.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday launched electronic Inner Line Permit (ILP) counters from state capital Imphal. Besides Imphal, two more counters, Jiribam and Mao, have been inaugurated.

The Centre has no proposal to abolish the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system currently prevalent in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur, Parliament was informed on Sunday.

Hynniewtrep Youth Council activists on Friday stormed the Meghalaya secretariat and staged a demonstration demanding introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and preparation of a National Register of Citizens to detect illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in the state.
