An Italian vessel captured by Somali pirates off the coast of Oman in December with 18 crew members, including seven Indians, has been released. M T Enrico Ievoli, hijacked on December 27, has been released by the pirates, the Director General of Shipping said in a statement here today.

Somali pirates have freed an Italian oil tanker hijacked in February with five Italians and 17 Indians on board after nearly 11 months in captivity, the Italian government said today. Prime Minister Mario Monti "expressed his great satisfaction for the release of the Italian ship Savina Caylyn and the crew," it said in a statement.

Italian ship with 10 Indian crew on-board hijacked off Somali coast

Suspected Somali pirates on Monday hijacked an Italian ship with 23 crew members, including 10 Indians, onboard, a former regional maritime official said. According to the Italian-based firm which manages the ship, Dalmare Spa, the vessel was carrying a consignment of iron materials, Xinhua reported.
