Tension prevailed in Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district of Kerala on Monday as a large number of Jacobite faction priests and followers prevented those belonging to the Orthodox faction from entering a church at Kochi to take its possession as per a Supreme Court order.

Sabarimala is not the only place the Kerala police is having trouble enforcing Supreme Court orders. A riverside church in rural Ernakulam's Piravom was at the centre of a dramatic stand-off between police and a faction of Christians for nearly five hours on Monday.

Caught in a row between two factions of a church, a 94-year-old man, who died 10 days ago, was finally laid to rest early yesterday, amid heavy police protection.
