Jagan Mohan Reddy's bail plea deferred, mother begins campaign for by-poll

YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy's mother Vijay Lakshmi has begun campaigning from Srikakulam district for June 12 by-polls to 18 assembly seats from today, as the bail plea of the leader has been deferred by Andhra Pradesh High Court till tomorrow.

The Election Commission of India on Tuesday refused to intervene in YSR Congress Party leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy's arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), party sources said. The commission conveyed the YSR Congress Party's honorary President Vijayamma that since the matter was in court, it would not intervene, the sources said.

Jagan, as he is popularly known is the son of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He is allotted prisoner number 6,093 after he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in the disproportionate assets case.

With the arrest of YS Jaganmohan Reddy on charges of corruption, his mother Vijayamma will now campaign for the YSR Congress in next month's by-elections. Vijayamma, the honorary president of the party, was requested to do so after the party's central governing council held an emergency meeting Monday.
